| | Well its here, my new (well 10 year old) toy has arrived. The
import company got it ready on time, well nearly they were still screwing things
on when I got there, To get it registered they had to add a fog light, and
convert the speedo to mph. I also got them to fit a thatcham cat 1
alarm as its hard to get insured without one.
Whats a GTO ?
Its what happens if you give some designers a free hand to build a luxury
sports car and add any gismos that they wanted. I don't mean that its
full of sat nav, amazing stereo or a talking dashboard, but nearly everything
in the car has a computer control unit. They are in the ABS, electronic controlled
suspension, 4 wheel stear, active areos, active exhaust, cruise control,
engine management, two in the air con / heating, and even the seatbelts have
an electronic control so that they pull back less when they are
fastened. But the really good thing is that they started with a sleek
low body with fat tyres, 4 wheel drive, and an amazing 3 litre V6 twin turbo
engine that produces 300bhp.
What is it like ?
The best word to describe it is FAST. Pop it into second, press the
loud pedal and hold onto the steering wheel for dear life, 80mph arrives
astonishingly fast (yes that is in second), overtaking no longer feels like a
fair game. With the suspension in sport mode your teeth chatter a bit,
it is slightly les vicious in tour mode, but not exactly luxurious. When
you reach a corner there is almost no body roll. I'm just hoping that it
won't be too expensive for me to run.

The seating is 2+2, even the back has bucket seats to support you
through those fast corners, maybe that will stop my pasengers getting thrown
around.
